The Brighton & Hove Arts Commission

Introduction and background

In 2002 a consultation exercise, held as part of the evaluation for the bid for Capital of Culture, recommended that the council establish an Arts Commission for the city.

In the summer of 2003 the council’s main committee of Policy and Resources agreed this recommendation and the Chief Executive invited a small steering group chaired by Jackie Lythell, to establish the role, remit, working structure and membership of the Arts Commission.
