Celebrating Age 2006 was a unique event within Brighton & Hove throughout July celebrating the positive aspects of ageing, and providing opportunities for older people to be seen, heard and take part.
An exciting programme of performing and visual arts confronted negative images of ageing and a series of national and international conferences allowed older people to speak directly to policy and decision makers about the support and services they need to lead healthy, active and fulfilling lives.
Celebrating Age Festival: 9 - 30 July
If you want to dress up and dance the night away on an outdoor bandstand, listen to radical political debate, view contemporary visual art, step back to the 1956 cinema or enjoy explosive contemporary dance literally on the shore, then step right up! There’s something for everybody whatever your age – why not come and celebrate with us?
Conference and Exhibition: 24 - 28 July at the Brighton Centre
The Brighton Centre will host a series of national and internatial conferences which will look at what action needs to be taken to improve services for older people and help change cultural attitudes to ageing.
There will be information and entertainment at Brighton Centre to complement the conference activity. An exhibition will highlight the services and opportunities available to older people, while a community stage and cafe will be the focus of a rolling programme of performance, demonstration and events. Why not drop in and take part?
Full programme details will be available on 27 June - so watch this space!
